An important history lesson from our good friend Samuel Sinyangwe:
The Las Vegas shooting isn’t deadliest mass shooting in US history. The deadliest mass shootings were acts of white supremacist terrorism.
1919: Elaine “race riot” in Arkansas where a mob of white men shot and killed 100-800 black people “on sight.”
1921: Tulsa “race riot” (note how this is used as code for massacre) where mob of white men killed 50-300 blacks.
1873: Colfax riot, where a mob of white men murdered 62-153 black people to take control of the local government.
1850: Bloody Island Massacre, where US troops slaughtered 60-400 members of the Pomo tribe, who they had enslaved.
1864 Fort Pillow: General Forrest murdered 277 black soldiers after they surrendered. He later became KKK Grand Wizard.
1890: Wounded Knee Massacre, where US troops killed 300 Lakota men, women, and children.
These acts of racial terrorism are rarely taught in school or widely remembered. Yet they are the deadliest mass shootings in US history.
